KAIXA DRIVER

This toy comes courtesy of our own Hero A2, who purchased it during a recent jaunt in Japan. Since the Kaixa Driver isn't much different from the Faiz Driver in function, most of the features will be repeated or abbreviated.

The set comes with a phone, belt, belt straps and two side attachments for the Kaixa Shot and Kaixa Blaygun (the Kaixa Pointer comes with an additional belt attachment). The belt, straps and attachments are identical to the Faiz Driver only painted differently.

The phone unit lights up with a loud powering up sound when activated. It will flash every 8 seconds while it's on. It has a removable mission memory chip, which of course doesn't really do anything. The phone face rotates open and clicks into place, showing a chart of the various functions. Any button combination will make the three escalating notes heard on the show. All of the Kaixa Driver's sounds and quotes are in a deeper/darker tone in comparison to the Faiz Driver. The Kaixa Driver's henshin is 913 Enter, and is activated just like the Faiz Driver. The Exceed Charge is also activated the same as on the show. The "Connectioning" and cancel buttons also work the same way.

The gun mode functions (Single, Burst, Charge) are the same as the Faiz Driver. The face of the phone clicks solidly into gun mode, and as such cannot be turned any farther in that direction. That means the face cannot swivel in a full circle (it would make the gun mode less sturdy).

And now I repeat myself: The Kaixa Driver is very show accurate in both form and function (albeit only slightly scaled down) and is a quality piece of work in both design, playability and construction. It's hard to find one without going to Japan, your best alternative is to try searching local or online import stores. The phones originally retailed in Japan for approximately $45, buying an imported one will go anywhere between $50 and $80. They almost never appear on Ebay. If you like the Kamen Rider 555 series (or just incredibly cool quality tokusatsu toys/gadgets) don't hesitate to get this belt if the opportunity presents itself.

Final Word: Quality and excellence. A+

The Faiz and Kaixa phones with their half-sized gashapon (capsule toy) counterparts. The gashapon versions beep when the keypad is pressed (and each capsule cost 400 yen, egad!).
